Flash Fiction Friday: Confrontation
Published April 26, 2009

This was a lot of fun, and it turned out about as ridiculous as I had expected it would. Props to Robin for coming up with this week's challenge. Mosey on over to her's, Caiti's, and Gabe's sites to see their takes on the rule. Pretty please try and guess our task for this week. It shouldn't be very hard. As a clue, you could call mine FFF:FFFF.
------------
“Hey Fenix,” Dom started, “they’ve got a word for people like your parents.” His eyes were all that betrayed his contempt, as his deep, smooth voice stayed its calm ground. Dominic Toretto had a gift with one-liners.
------------
Fenix was not the sort of man who talked much. Not many people were all that eager to talk to him. Most of those who knew him wished he were dead, while the rest were about to die themselves. The majority of self expression Fenix needed to communicate was accomplished by scowls and grunts, both of which he did in response to Don before verbally expanding.
“What’s that?”
Brian O'Conner looked on, trying to look cool. Brian wanted so bad to look cool. The way he interpreted the appearance of cool entailed reacting as little as possible. He knew Dom was smarter than to go for the easy jab, but regardless was worried about the consequences of whatever insult Fenix was about to receive. To show his concern and reveal his allegiance with Dom would be to blow tons of expensive, aerodynamic steel, complicated mechanics, a government fronted entry fee, and hours of investment into a street rep, not to mention the eyes of Gisele, or in the case that she was after Dom, at least Brian’s ability to lay his eyes on her. The only option was to stand by and see what would go down.
“Illiterate.”
The small group of nearby meatheads and half-naked women made no effort to stifle their chuckles as Fenix fumed. As he subtly rotated his head in a figure eight path in order to express his indignance he only exacerbated the fact that he looked absolutely insane. This time Fenix didn’t need words; it was already Dom’s turn to speak again.
“You got something to say to me?”
Fenix simply took a few steps in Dom’s direction. Brian’s fists clenched, ready to flail. Fenix’s eyes only reached the height of Dom’s chin, but there was less than a foot between the two. Everyone waited for a reaction. The tiniest move could have severe repercussions for everyone around, and it became clear that something serious was about to happen, leaving people caught between wanting to look out for themselves and knowing that they’d be foolish not to witness the confrontation as it played out. Dom took it upon itself to progress the situation by whipping out the only credible option in the situation.
“I think we need to settle this. With a race.”
